No Adderall in Canada

April 20th, 2005

Adderall was banned earlier this year in Canada.

It is a shame that stimulants can be abused, because they help so many people so greatly. Every time I hear a story about college students abusing Ritalin or Adderall, it makes me very angry. It makes it more difficult for the people who really need the medications to have them.

The real people who suffer are those who need it for driving, and for work. A wonder drug like Adderall can help a person pull himself or herself together enough to go out and find a job, and then to hold the job steadily. That tends to be the fate of wonder drugs; they are so helpful that people who don’t need them start abusing them, and then the wonder drugs get banned for everyone.

If I depended on Adderall but lived in Canada, the ban would be enough to make me move to the United States.

Sometimes they don’t think through the people they are hurting to save the few idiots who ruin it for everyone..

I abused Dexadrine one time when i was 15. That was 9 years ago, though. ANd i majorly learned my lesson!
They were my friends brothers, he took them for ADHD. Stupid me, at the age of 15, thought they were 5mg pills lasting 6 hours. I took about 6 ofthem over the course of 12 hours.

Unfortunately, they were 15mg time released 12 hour pills. I was up for a few days.

It was because of that experience though, that leads me to beleive even more that i may suffer from ADD. For the first 8-12 hours (until the “overdose” took affect) i was able to sit in one single spot, and write.. and write.. and i could concentrate like ive never been able to before!

I just sat there, no urge to get up and run a mile like any other person on that much speed would have wanted to do. I just wanted to sit and write. I wrote for those 8-12 hours, in that one spot. The only speed related symptom i got was speaking at 100mph.

Ill never forget that. Best concentration i have ever had.
Though again, shame on people who abuse. I’m lucky something worse didnt come of it. And this post is in no way endorsing speed abuse.

Actually I’ve been thinking about it all weekend and have come to the conclusion that it’s much more the fault of the media and of lawmakers than of the kids who abuse the stimulants.

The media makes such a big deal out of it, and the lawmakers sit at home and watch TV without really understanding the issues from the perspective of people with ADD/ADHD, as well as from the perspective of people who try stimulants desperate to concentrate better. And many of those people actually do have ADD or ADHD.

I had completely forgotten that before I was diagnosed, I abused coffee like crazy and wished I knew someone who could share some Ritalin with me.
